There has been one story this month that has been very obviously dominating the news cycle. I'm sure you've heard about it (if you haven't, do you live under a rock?). That would be the Queen's death. Obviously this is very tragic, but the stories surrounding this passing have absolutely taken over the news since it happened. This could be one reason why many of the stories I will discuss later have been somewhat overlooked. I don't just bring this up to prove a point though; the Queen's death absolutely relates to the intersection of mass media and politics in this country.
Because of the fact that the news cycle is dominated with one story, other stories relating directly to the American political system have been somewhat repressed. One such story is, in my opinion, very important and very intriguing as to it getting pushed down in the news. I will be discussing this story specifically in one the upcoming blog posts, so stay tuned!
The Queen's death definitely caused an uproar on social media, it seemed the second the news broke out about her passing, the news took over all social media platforms imaginable. As it took over all of mass media not just in politics, but in all areas of media, the Queen's passing definitely repressed some stories regarding American politics that once the news broke out, it did not spread as fast as usual or did not spread at ALL. This went on for a few weeks, crazy enough, but luckily has been toned down as of recent. While the Queen's passing is tragic, it should not repress news about American politics that can impact our lives. Anyways, this was a great post!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it definitely relates to the realm in which we are studying. I even wrote a post about some key moments during the Queen's reign because my blog is about women in politics and media. However, I have appreciated that this topic has died down and we have begun to focus again on important, U.S. topics.
