Another Underreported Story

I would also like to bring light to the woman who was seriously injured after a train hit the police car she was handcuffed in. The video of the incident is fairly horrifying, so don't watch it if you are squeamish. I'd like to loop back in the money discussion with this post as well. What happened was that the woman was put into a police car, handcuffed, that was sitting on train tracks. I, for one, refuse to stop on train tracks at a red light. I will leave as much space as I need to to avoid this from happening. Anyways, a train comes and hits the police car with the woman in it. Luckily, she survived, but the negligence displayed is outlandish.      The main thing I want to discuss is how it is reported on via mass media. Let's take a look at some article titles. "Video shows train hitting Colorado police car with woman handcuffed inside" "Woman hit by train while in police car is out of hospital" "Speeding train hits Colorado police vehic...

A Strike

I mentioned earlier about a story that was pushed down because of the reporting on the Queen. This is that story. Rail workers in America decided that they were going to go on strike. I am a huge proponent of striking and unionizing because I think both actions can lead to power going back into worker's hands. There are many other reasons why I strongly support (most) unions and strikes, but I could make an entire blog post at some point about why. That is not the main topic of this post. The rail strike was in its planning stages during the news cycle about the Queen's death, so it didn't get much coverage. However, this strike could have been devastating to the supply chain in this country. Rail is still a major mode of transportation for materials and products demanded by American consumers every day. Rail workers going on strike could destroy the supply chain, even more so than it already is. With this much at stake, you would expect to see every type of m...

The Big Story

There has been one story this month that has been very obviously dominating the news cycle. I'm sure you've heard about it (if you haven't, do you live under a rock?). That would be the Queen's death. Obviously this is very tragic, but the stories surrounding this passing have absolutely taken over the news since it happened. This could be one reason why many of the stories I will discuss later have been somewhat overlooked. I don't just bring this up to prove a point though; the Queen's death absolutely relates to the intersection of mass media and politics in this country.     Because of the fact that the news cycle is dominated with one story, other stories relating directly to the American political system have been somewhat repressed. One such story is, in my opinion, very important and very intriguing as to it getting pushed down in the news. I will be discussing this story specifically in one the upcoming blog posts, so stay tuned!

Let's Talk About the Month of September

The month of September has truly flown by. It feels like just yesterday that I was thinking the same thing about August. There were a lot of major events that were shaped by the way they were reported on during this month, and over the next few blog posts, I'd like to discuss them. Specifically, I'd like to look into stories I would consider major that weren't heavily reported in the news. So, be sure to check out the accompanying posts, and I hope you have a great day!
